The Sahara Desert

General facts.
The Sahara Desert is not the biggest desert in the world. Its the biggest "hot" desert in the world. It is located in north Africa and takes up 9,000,000 square kilometres. It takes up ten per cent of Africa. The Sahara touches or is in every one of these countries Algeri, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Sudan and Tunisia.

Animals and plants.
Due to the high temperatures and very hot weather in the Sahara Desert, the organisms in the Sahara are rare, there are only around 500 different species. They are mostly drought and heat adapted organisms. These type of organisms are called halphytes, this means they can adapt to the high temperature and salty/sandy landscape.
Climate.
During the day the Sahara can reach up to 56 degrees during the day. During the night in the Sahara it can be very cold, it can reach -6. There is very little rain in the Sahara. There is only roughly 3 mililtres of rain per year.
